    Training

    The Central Laboratories Unit (CLU) provides analytical and technical support and consultancy to serve efficiently the University’s research activities and testing needs. In addition, it optimizes and upgrades the practical performance of QU technical staff and students. Moreover, CLU provides hands-on experience in the use of analytical instruments in QU. The main objectives of the CLU are research, training and chemical analysis conducting services for clients. The Central Laboratories unit (CLU) is working continuously on optimizing its performance to meet the criteria of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and maintain its accreditation with the American Association of Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA), which was first achieved in the year 2010. Since then, more methods have been added to the list of accreditations renewed during subsequent audits.
    • Serves and supports the research activities of the University (research conducted by faculty and student’s projects).
    • Meets the analytical/testing needs of government and private sectors, organizations, industry, and individual customers in the State of Qatar.
    • Provides training for students and other technical staff in QU, government, and private sectors.
    • Provides technical support and consultancy.
    • Supports teaching and research activities in QU by providing the laboratories requirements of Liquid Nitrogen LN2.
    • To promote talent development and student training programs in line with Qatar University’s main strategic goals.
    • To provide students with a training environment compatible with their studies, leading to the development specifications of Qatar University graduates in terms of aptitude and skills that qualify them for future work.
    • To promote research training culture and processes to build a distinct research environment at Qatar University.
    • To motivate students to invite their ideas and apply it in real life by research.
    • To enhance student’s sample analysis skills to achieve accurate analysis results.
    • To simplify scientific research work to encourage the students to start their own interest field.
    1. Chromatographic Techniques: Fundamentals, Instrumentation and Applications
      • Basic principles of laboratory safety.
      • General Introduction to Chromatographic Techniques: Chromatography Theories, Instrumentation and Applications.
      • Ion Chromatography (IC): General Principals, Instrumentation and Applications.
      • Liquid Chromatography (LC): General Principals, Instrumentation and Applications.
      • Gas Chromatography (GC & GC/MS): Basic Principals, Instrumentation, and Applications.
      • Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS), Mass-Selective Detection in Chromatography and Troubleshooting of Chromatographic Equipment.
      • Quiz for participants.
    2. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR): Basic Theory, Spectral Analysis and Applications
      • Basic principles of the laboratory safety.
      • Introduction to Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy.
      • 1D NMR Spectra and the information involved.
      • Structure Determinations with NMR Spectroscopy.
      • 2D NMR Spectra and their applications.
      • Advanced Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) applications.
      • Quiz for participants.
    3. Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy: Fundamentals, Instrumentations and Applications
      • Basic principles of laboratory safety.
      • Introduction to Atomic and Molecular Spectroscopy: fundamentals, instrumentation, and general applications.
      • Introduction to sample preparation and sample digestion (Microwave Digestion System) for trace metals analysis.
      • Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP/MS): sample analysis, software and data interpretation.
      • Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP/OES): sample analysis, software and data interpretation.
      • Raman Spectroscopy (DXR Raman): general principals, instrumentation and applications.
      • Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR): general principals, instrumentation and applications.
      • UV–visible spectrophotometry (UV/Vis): general principals, instrumentation and applications.
      • Quiz for participants.
    4. Electron Microscope (SEM/EDS and TEM): Basics, Sample Preparation and Applications
      • Basic principles of Laboratory safety.
      • Introduction to Electron Microscopy Techniques (SEM/EDS and TEM).
      • Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) instrumentation and applications.
      • Sample selection and preparation for Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).
      • Hands-on usage of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).
      • Sample preparation (Sputter Coating).
      • Demonstration of Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDS/Mapping) analysis.
      • Hands-on usage of Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDS/Mapping).
      • Introduction to Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM).
      • Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) instrumentation and applications.
      • Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) sample selection and processing.
      • Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) sample preparation.
      • Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) samples screening.
      • Quiz for participants.
