    About Us

Welcome to Qatar University (QU) Central Laboratories Unit (CLU) website. The website is designed to serve your needs.

The CLU is one of the many research facilities under the Office of Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies available at QU. Within the University and the state, CLU provides facilities where research is infused into teaching and scientific discoveries. The unit operates in strict agreement with the best practice standard procedures of certified scientific laboratories and continues to update and re-train its staff members at every opportunity. Our facilities are the first point of call for QU faculty research sample processing and analysis. We support the faculty in advancing their disciplines and places them at the forefront of their fields.

CLU initiates educational opportunities that enrich student experience and provides transferable skills that make our graduates more competitive in the job market. We are committed to the continued training and development of students and early career researchers alike by providing mentoring, advanced scientific and research training opportunities, and career guidance.

More importantly, given our state-of-the-art analytical equipment, instruments, skilled technicians, and researchers, our work extends beyond the University's confines. Intellectual discoveries arising from CLU's services contribute significantly to advancing Qatar University's mission and aligning with Qatar's national vision by supporting environmental protection, promoting sustainable food production, and enhancing overall human development. Notably, from 2011 to 2024, the CLU has processed a total of 128,487 samples, underscoring its pivotal role in scientific research and industry collaboration.

We hope that your visit is informative. Should you seek further information, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your kind attention.

The Central Laboratories Unit (CLU) was established in 2004 following the integration of the chemical analysis laboratory and the electron microscopy laboratory, which were formerly part of the chemistry and biology department. Overseen by the Vice President, the CLU extends its expertise to all scientific departments at Qatar University, as well as to private and governmental institutions. It provides a wide range of services, including chemical analysis, electron microscopy, and thermal analysis.

The Central Laboratories Unit (CLU) at Qatar University has expanded over the years by establishing specialized units to enhance its research and analytical capabilities. The Molecular Microscopy Unit was the first to be introduced in 2004, followed by the Thermal Characterization Unit in 2006. In 2008, the Chromatography Unit was added to support advanced chemical analysis. Further expansion took place in 2010 with the establishment of both the Elemental Analysis Unit and the Atomic Spectroscopy Unit, strengthening the university’s capacity for elemental and material characterization. The Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Unit and the Liquid Nitrogen Production Unit were later introduced in 2017, providing critical resources for molecular structure analysis and cryogenic applications. Each of these units is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation and operated by highly skilled professionals, ensuring excellence in research, testing, and technical support across various scientific disciplines.
